Five Lobelia Circle shortlisted for best office development

Brisbane Airport’s Five Lobelia Circle has been named a finalist in the 2015 Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Awards.

 

The building is one of only seven national finalists in the category for ‘Best Office Development’.

 

Brisbane Airport Corporation General Manager Commercial Businesses John Tormey said the building is testament to what is possible at the airport precinct.

 

“Five Lobelia Circle is the first commercial office building at the International Terminal precinct, making it a unique project in a highly connected, high profile location,” he said.

 

The concept for Five Lobelia Circle was developed for an Australian Federal Police (AFP) requirement under Project Jupiter – a national initiative to locate AFP offices at 10 Australian airports.

 

As the major tenant occupying three of five floors, the AFP worked closely with BNE Property to ensure the building met specific security and technology needs.

 

AFP Aviation Commander Queensland Grant Edwards said the end result has been a huge success.

 

“The purpose built, secure facility is state of the art and stands out as a contemporarily designed and unique building within the immediate aviation precinct,” Mr Edwards said.

 

“It provides us the space to undertake our core activity and affords us excellent proximity which has significantly shortened our response times,” he said.

 

“The building is the envy of all our Commonwealth and State stakeholders who consistently comment that they wished they had a similar type facility.”

 

The five-level A Grade building was architecturally designed by Cottee Parker to embrace the unique airport location with views to the CBD and Port.

 

The open plan 1,325m2 floor plates allow for efficient tenancy layouts and operations.

 

Designed to achieve a 4.5 Star NABERS rating, Five Lobelia Circle delivers sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives including an adaptable façade, zoned air-conditioning and lighting, attractive user-friendly fire stairs and extensive end-of-trip facilities.

 

Mr Tormey said the building is an example of Brisbane Airport’s commitment to long-term sustainable development practices.

 

“Five Lobelia Circle is future-proofed for sustainability and technology upgrades,” he said.

 

“Smart thinking in the building design has resulted in a sustainable, yet cost effective building that achieves a high level of energy efficiency without comprising user aesthetics.”

 

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on 1 May.
